Using The Medela Pump Style Advanced to Assist With Breast Feeding

The Medela Pump Style Advanced is a valuable and dependable pumping system. Using it regularly will allow you to give your baby the very best nutrition available: your own breast milk. Breastfeeding really is the greatest gift you can give your newborn (along with your love and attention!) By choosing to breast feed you are ensuring that your baby gets all of their essential nutrients, and even antibodies to protect them from illness.

While the research is clear that breastfeeding is best for your baby, it can be difficult in practice. For example: You might be able to be with your baby constantly for the first few months, but eventually there will be a time when you need to either return to work, or be away from your baby for a short period of time. What happens then? You will still want your baby to have access to your milk, no matter what else you have to do! The best choice is to pump and freeze your milk so that it’s always available, even when you aren’t able to be there. If you’re going to successfully do that, then you are going to need a good pumping system. The Medela Pump Style Advanced has several features that make pumping and storing your breast milk easier.

Most notably the Medela Pump Style Advanced features SoftFit technology. This means that the breast shields (the cups that go up against your breasts while you pump) are soft enough not to hurt you, but firm enough to mimic a baby’s sucking reflex so that you produce more milk, faster. The Medela Advanced also has a unique feature that takes advantage of the most recent breast feeding research. Studies have indicated that infants feed in specific patterns: Sucking quickly and lightly at the beginning of a feeding session, and then progressing to deeper and slower suckling towards the middle and end of a session.

Medela has taken that research and designed their pumps to mimic the suckling patterns that your newborn will have. This feature makes pumping more natural and more comfortable than it’s ever been. It also works to help you express more milk per session since it’s closer to what your body experiences when you feed your baby directly. With the Medela you can choose to pump both breasts at the same time, or only one. They even sell a bra that snaps onto the cups of the pump. This will let you be completely hands free while you pump! Having your hands free is an unexpected benefit. Instead of needing to hold up the pump, you can read a book, or just enjoy a few moments of quiet all to yourself. No matter which pump you choose to buy, make sure you investigate the quality and the features it offers. Not all pumps are created equal. Pumps that are in the same price range can vary wildly in quality. I can tell you from experience that Medela does make quality products. Their pumps and accessories are not always the cheapest around, but there is a lot of thought, research, and care that goes into their development.

I wanted to see and try for myself how this pump works though it seems like a decent breast pump.
